These three dimensional rod puppets were
used in performances, accompanied by gamelan music and ritual offerings.
The repertoire in Central Java includes stories from Hindu epics of the
Ramayana and the Mahabarata, and Islamic stories about Amir Hamzah, uncle
of the prophet Mohammed. Many characters are available. They are about
24" high. These puppets, used in performance, are 25-30 years old.
